by Michael DeVyst, Journal sports writer BLOUNTSTOWN – Chipley’s QB Josh Myers scored on a 3 yard run with 29 seconds left to play and James Voorhees ran in the two-point conversion allowing Chipley to advance to the next round of the playoffs with a 34-33 win. Blountstown scored two non-offensive touchdowns but four turnovers resulting in 13 Chipley points proved too much to overcome this past Friday. Blountstown’s defense won the District 4 Class 1A championship against West Gadsden last Friday night in Greensboro. The Tigers kept the high flying Panthers out of the end zone by stopping them on two fourth and goals from the 1 yard line and forcing two field goal attempts on two other possessions. Blountstown scored on every first half possession and jumped out to a 33-0 first half lead against the home-standing Seahawks. Blountstown and Altha met Oct. 20 on the Lady Tigers’ turf for an intense afternoon volleyball game that was full of action. Blountstown was looking to extend their two game win streak. Blountstown did everything right statistically but fell short on the scoreboard, 16-6. Blountstown ran more plays, had more rushing yards, more passing yards and more total yards. The Tigers defense held Sneads to 9 yards of total offense in the first half and 107 yards for the game. Sneads only reached the Tigers’ side of the 50 twice. The Tigers defense was phenomenal, holding Freeport to 136 yards of total offense and allowing only 5 first downs.
