Peavy family buys Classic Cleaners; business moves to Charlie Johns St.

The lounging bobcats, coiled rattlesnakes and trophy deer mounts have been moved out and rows of clothing ready to be cleaned have been rolled in to the building that once housed Buck Wild Taxidermy. The taxidermy business has been moved to Travis Peavy’s home while his parents, Marlon and Debbie Peavy set up a new enterprise next to their other businesses, Shiver’s Florist and Peavy Funeral Home. The couple bought Classic Cleaners March 1 and will retain the name in memory of one of its late owners, Kathy McCullen. The cleaners operated at Harvey’s Shopping Center for the past...

by Teresa Eubanks, Journal Editor A 22-year-old FSU student remained under observation at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Tuesday afternoon, two days after she was taken by ambulance from Torreya State Park where she was bitten by a snake. “She stepped on what appeared to be a copperhead and got a small bite on the top of her foot,” said Park Manager Steve Cutshaw. Chad Copeland of Bristol may have caught it but he almost didn’t get to keep it after a snake tried to steal something from his line during a fishing trip on March 31. Sheriff’s Office releases report on death of Tranum McLemore

by Teresa Eubanks, Journal Editor BRISTOL – The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office released the report on the death of Tranum McLemore Tuesday afternoon. Sheriff Donnie Conyers said he is satisfied that McLemore, who was found facedown on his bedroom floor with three bullet wounds ­– one to his left arm, one behind his right ear and one to his leg – took his own life. Powder burns around the arm wound indicated the shot was fired from less than eight inches, according to Investigator Brian Bateman’s report.
