The National Merit Scholarship Program is a nationwide academic competition for recognition and scholarships. In the fall of her Junior year, Caitlyn participated in the PSAT/NMSQT, the qualifying test for National Merit Scholarship Program. Jimmy Brown of Hosford has been selected as a 2012 Sunshine State Scholar from Liberty County. A program that began as a science and math competition has evolved into an exciting initiative that recognizes each school district’s top student in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and provides opportunities for those scholars to meet with college, university, and industry leaders. Jimmy traveled to Orlando Feb. 16-17 with his parents and a teacher from his school. A thank you and our expressions of appreciation for what you do! Commander Linda Blair, Post 272, was elected commander in May 2011 after serving as Post Adjutant and Finance Officer. This veteran is a mover and a shaker. Post 272 is now debt free, the building has been cleaned, painted inside and patriotic exhibits displayed throughout of photos, plaques and flags that honor veterans. Ann Marie Brown of Hosford won the Tallahassee Democrat Big Bend Regional Spelling Bee Saturday. Just like she did last year. Her winning word was “homogeneous.” She took the competition in the 20th round. The 14-year-old is an eighth grade student at W.R. Tolar School in Bristol.
