by Teresa Eubanks, Journal Editor

A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Liberty County man Monday night.

Robert Hodge, 51, of Bristol was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from his vehicle on a Gadsden County road around 11 p.m., according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

Hodge was going west on CR 274 in a 1994 Toyota Tacoma when he crossed the center line, traveled across the eastbound lane and drove onto the shoulder of the road.  The truck then went back onto the road and again crossed both lanes, entering the north shoulder where it overturned onto the passenger’s side and ejected the driver.

The crash occurred near Salley Brown Road.  The FHP report indicated Hodge was not wearing a seat belt.  A determination as to whether the wreck was alcohol-related is pending.

FHP Cpl. Matthew Kirkland is in charge of the investigation.

The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office, Gadsden County EMS and the Quincy Fire Department assisted FHP at the scene.
