Woman’s body discover hidden in weeds behind Telogia home

from the Calhoun-Liberty Journal

The body of a woman was discovered face down in waist-high weeds behind a Telogia home Friday morning.

The discovery was made a man who had gone outside to mow his back yard and noticed the body a short distance from his home, according to Lt. John Summers of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.  The home is located on Shawn Road, across from Burlington Road and approximately a mile north of the intersection of CR 67 and SR 65.  The sheriff’s office received the call around 11:30 a.m.

As of 6 p.m. Friday, Summers said the woman’s identity had not been verified, although he did say it appeared she was in her late 20s or early 30s.  He said he expected to have a name by Saturday, when an autopsy will be conducted in Tallahassee.

“We’re treating this like a homicide but the cause of death is undetermined,” he said.  When asked about rumors that she had been shot, he responded, “There’s no clear evidence there was a gunshot wound,” and added,   “We’re not releasing any evidence about any trauma.”

He indicated the body had “been there for some time,” possibly as much as 48 to 72 hours.

He did indicate they did have a person of interest identified in connection with the death.

He said the sheriff had called in the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate the woman’s death.
