Bristol man charged with DUI after late night crash on SR 20

A Bristol man has been charged with driving under the influence and property damage following a single-vehicle crash early last week.

Kareem E. Walker, 27, was arrested after losing control of his 2012 Buick LaCrosse on SR 20, west of SR 65 shortly before midnight on June 20.

According to the FHP report, Walker was westbound on SR 20 when he drifted across the eastbound lane and went onto the eastbound shoulder.  When he tried to steer back onto the road, the car started to rotate and then overturned twice, coming to rest on its roof on the eastbound shoulder.

Walker refused medical transport.  His passengers were both taken to Calhoun-Liberty Hospital to be examined for injuries.  James Robert Faircloth, 25, had what was described as a minor head injury.  He had not been wearing his seatbelt.  The second passenger was Justin William Faircloth, 28, who suffered abrasions and a black eye.  He was wearing his seatbelt.

Walker refused to provide breath samples to determine his level of intoxication. A trooper reported that Walker had slurred speech, his eyes were bloodshot and he could not stand without support.

He acknowledged that he was driving and admitted he’d consumed alcohol, stating, “I have been drinking and I crashed the vehicle.”  He said he had four to five drinks.

One of the passengers said they had been at a pub and pool hall in Tallahassee, where they had been drinking.

Walker was released on $5,000 bond on Wednesday, June 21.
