Ruby Christine Brooks Mercer
HOSFORD - Ruby Christine Brooks Mercer, 81, of Hosford, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 in Hosford. She was born on Dec. 22, 1935 to Perley M. Brooks and Mary Savannah Sewell Brooks. She had lived in Hosford since 1971, coming from Altha. She was a homemaker, loved to play the piano, loved to crochet and she truly loved the Lord and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis Milton Mercer; her son, Henry Lamar Hathaway; and three sisters, Annie Lee Brooks Carter, Bertie E. Brooks Whitus and Fannie Brooks Hutchinson.
Survivors include four sons, Johnny Sevell Hathaway and his wife, Doris of Waycross, GA, Ronnie Dale Hathaway, Sr. and his wife, Ginger of Telogia, Michael Steven Hathaway and his wife, Martha of Cypress and James Terrell Hathaway and his wife, Patricia of Hosford; a daughter, Cynthia Rose Hathaway Sapp and her husband, Doyle of Maryville, TN; four brothers, Lewis Brooks and his wife, Quida and Leon Brooks and his wife, Carolyn, all of Marianna, James Brooks and Richard Brooks and his wife, Mary Frank, all of Altha; two sisters, Margie Brooks Tatum and Annette Brooks Hagens and her husband, Jimmy, all of Marianna; 18 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren; and her special angels, Verna Mae Kever, Kylia Shuler Barabash, Sherri Godwin, Tonia Williams, Casey Burke, Ruthie Green, Leslie Sparks, Stormy Johnson, Marie Sewell and Becky Rackley.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
Services will be held Monday, March 27 at 12 p.m. CT at Peavy Funeral Home with Rev. Arron Elkins officiating and Doobie Hayes speaking. Interment will follow in Old Shiloh Cemetery near Altha.
