Elliott Lonzell Duggar
HOSFORD - Elliott L. Duggar, 89, of Hosford, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017 in Calhoun County. He was born on June 3, 1927 in the Blue Creek Community of Hosford, one of 14 children to Wright Duggar and Blanche Duggar.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 at the age of 17 and served throughout World War II before being honorably discharged. He married Ruby Mae Thompson of Wakulla County in 1946 and the two had two children, Monty and Kay.
He was a longtime resident and active citizen of Liberty County and served as a County Commissioner for eight years. He retired as a health inspector for the State of Florida. In his younger years he engaged in a myriad of activities; flying, boxing, operating numerous business enterprises and outdoor activities. He was if nothing else a man to and of his family. Devoted to the protection and betterment of the ones that he loved, he spent much of his time talking and teaching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was never happier or more at home than when he was surrounded by his family and friends.
Riding his family property on his tractor and improving his homestead was another pastime of his. He could often be found on the tractor from early in the morning until late into the night or surveying the land with one of his grand or great-grandchildren at his side. As a protector and advocate for his family he was fierce. There was no battle that was too big for him when it came to his family.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Mae; a son, Monty Duggar (Sue) of Blue Creek; a daughter, Kay Sessions (Gary) of Blue Creek; six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, Scott Sessions (Rhonda) of Grand Ridge and Scott’s former-wife (Julie) of Quincy and their children, Brooklyn, Madison, Caden and Ethan; Kim Mazerac (Jeffery) and their children, Atticus and Anya; Brooksanne Benites (Chris) and her children, Gabri, Regan and Emma; Shawn Duggar (Jamie) and their children, Nathan and Hale, all of Tallahassee; John Duggar (Tara) and their children, Joy, Paul, Brigham and Hyrum of Omaha, NE and Carla Daniels (Lou) and their children, Autumn, Paisley and Jep of Blountstown.
