Blountstown man arrested on aggravated battery for hitting pregnant girlfriend with phone charging cable
A domestic dispute this past December has resulted in the arrest of a man for aggravated battery on a pregnant victim after he allegedly struck his girlfriend on the back with a charging cable, according to a report from the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened at the victim’s residence in Bristol on Dec. 9, 2016.
The victim and her boyfriend, Austin Cody Byrns, 22, of Blountstown, had just arrived at her home. As she was getting out of the car, she asked for her phone charger but Byrns refused to give it to her. She said that as she started to reach for it, he struck her in the back with it.
The arrest report noted that the impact left a mark which was documented.
She said the only witnesses were their two small children.
Byrns was gone before deputies arrived in response to the victim’s 911 call. Later that evening, he went to the sheriff’s office to give a statement. He said that when she asked for the charging cable, he told her he needed it. He said she then grabbed the charger and broke it in half.
He stated that as she was walking away, he threw the cord at her because he didn’t want it in his car. He denied striking her and said he never intended to hit her with the cord.
He was taken into custody Feb. 13.
