Harold Lloyd “H. L.” Howell
BLOUNTSTOWN - Harold Lloyd “H. L.” Howell, 89, of Blountstown, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, in Panama City. He was born on Aug. 26, 1927, in Hartford, AL, to Alpha Wade and Wanda McCormick Howell. He served his country proudly during two enlistments in the United States Army as an infantryman during World War II. He worked for the State of Florida as an inspector for the Department of Agriculture. He had lived in Blountstown since the early 1980’s, coming from Sebastian. He loved hunting, enjoyed fishing in Sebastian, and he famously sold watermelons every year in front of Blountstown’s local store, The Quick Pic. He was a member of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Louise Cox Howell; his parent; and a brother, James Roy Howell.
Survivors include his two daughters, Joyce Thomas and her husband, Dan of Blountstown and Kay Haynes and her husband, Joe of Vancouver, WA; a son, Bobby Howell and his wife, Linda of Deltona; two brothers, C. B. Howell and his wife, Evelyn of Bushnell and Ralph Howell and his wife, Charlene of Graceville; a sister, Sara McMasters of Orlando; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 17 from 6-8 p.m. CT at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown.
Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. CT at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown with Pastor David Wood officiating and Pastor Dan Thomas assisting. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery in Blountstown.
Flowers will be accepted, but donations to Covenant Care Hospice, 615 N. Bonita Avenue, Panama City, FL 32401, will be appreciated as well.
