ALTHA - Laverne Melton, 75, of Altha, passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017. She was born in Altha, Jan. 9, 1942, to Leon O’Bryan and Juanita Sansom Barbano. She was a registered nurse and retired from Florida State Hospital. After retirement, she worked at Calhoun-Liberty Hospital for several years. She was a member of Altha Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Buddy O’Bryan, Robert O’Bryan, Rex O’Bryan and Bill O’Bryan.
Survivors include two sons, Jason Melton and Jerry Melton, both of Altha; two daughters, Jahnie Economou and her husband, Alex and Julie Melton, all of Altha; grandchildren, Joel, Brooke and her husband, Adam, Breanna, Georgia K, Corey and his wife Kayla, Cy, Ruby Ann, Will, Desiree, Shayla and Hannah; three great-grandchildren, Hadley, Logan and Alexis; a brother, Jimmy Bennett and his wife, Margaret of California; three sisters, Nadine Lee of Port St. Joe, Mary Lou Mason and Patty Bennett, both of California; a sister-in-law, Connie O’Bryan of Texas, and Sadie, her beloved pet for 14 years.
Services were held Sunday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. at Altha Church of God with Rev. Allan Nichols officiating. Interment followed in Chipola Cemetery in Altha.
