Mabel Black Henderson
BRISTOL - Mabel Black Henderson, 90, of Bristol, unexpectedly yet peacefully transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly rest Friday, Jan. 27.
She was born in Bristol on March 24, 1926 to Curtis and Blanche Black. The third of nine children, she was affectionately known as “Mae.” Reared in a Christian home, she gave her life to Christ at a young age. After living in Tallahassee for over 40 years, she moved back to Bristol in 2000.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Tim and Bill; two sisters Edna and Ruby; a daughter, Gwendolyn Cantey Roberts; and one son, Ronald Cantey.
Survivors include one brother and three sisters, Alvin Black, Lydia Speights (John), Marie Gridiron and Agnes Garrett (Roosevelt); two sons and three daughters, Warren Cantey (Ollie), Richard Henderson, Vivian Cantey Evans, Rita Henderson Bland and Gina Henderson; 11 grandchildren, Alex, Dwayne, Erika, Anthony, Andres, Nia, Antoine, Robert, Allison, Libby and Gregory; 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 3 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. ET at Bradwell Mortuary in Quincy.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. ET at Bristol Cemetery. Interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made either to the Sickle Cell Foundation of the Big Bend or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
