White announces changes for the Liberty Co. Sheriff’s Office & Jail
Liberty County’s new top law enforcement officer, Sheriff Eddie Joe White, has announced that he is making some changes to the agency. They include:
•Eliminating some support and administrative jobs for a savings of $30,000
•Reinstating an agreement for inmates to pickup roadside trash, which will bring in around $29,000 a year.
•Providing law enforcement assistance to the National Forest, which is expected to generate about $6,000 of revenue annually.
•Arranging to house female inmates for other counties to help cover the costs of operating the Liberty County Jail.
•Resuming the practice of having county inmates work with the bridge and road dept. for road, park and cemetery maintenance, a practice expected to save county taxpayers more than $80,000 a year.
•Reinstituting the work release program for jail inmates.
•Reorganizing the patrol division.
•Requiring all deputies live in the county.
