Four in custody for Blountstown shooting
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) announced the arrest of Liroy Davon Travis, 20, of Panama City, on multiple felony charges on Dec. 14. His arrest stems from the Nov. 11 shooting of Rufus “Boogie” Cargile III in Blountstown.
The BCSO has also confirmed that the final suspect in the shooting, Brandon Jerome Smith, 25, of Panama City, is also in custody.
The Blountstown Police Department obtained arrest warrants for Travis and Smith for principal attempted felony murder, principle in the first degree to attempted robbery, and false report to law enforcement. The Bay County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division began looking for the suspects immediately upon receiving these warrants. Warrants deputies were able to track down Travis at Foxwood Apartments in Panama City. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Bay County Jail.
Witnesses alleged Derrick Lane, 24, of Panama City was the shooter. He was arrested in Bay County on unrelated charges. He is facing charges of attempted murder in the second degree, attempted robbery with a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and giving a false statement to a law enforcement officer.
A fourth suspect, Emmanuel Deveaux, 19, of Bristol turned himself in at the Calhoun County Jail, according to Blountstown Police Chief Mark Mallory.
