Lucious L. Rushing
BROAD BRANCH - Lucious L. Rushing, 84, of Broad Branch, departed for heaven on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 after dying peacefully at his home. He was born on June 20, 1932 in Euchee Valley in Walton County to Ed and Olive Rushing.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and afterwards returned to Florida to work at the St. Joe Paper Company Container Division. It was there that he met his soon-to-be wife, Evelyn Skipper. They married on Dec. 21, 1957, and enjoyed nearly 59 years together. He and Evelyn worked and raised their family in Port St. Joe. After they retired, they moved to Broad Branch.
He served the Lord throughout most of his adult life. He was a faithful member of Oak Grove Assembly of God for more than 30 years, and then became a founding member of Open Arms Assembly of God in Kinard. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but more than anything, he loved attending church and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ferlon Rushing; and his sister, Evelyn Griggs.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Rushing of Broad Branch; three daughters, Tammy Rushing of Broad Branch, Brenda Wood and her husband, Mike of Port St. Joe and Linda Wright and her husband, John, all of Port St. Joe; grandson, Matt Wright and his wife, Brittany of Panama City; three granddaughters, Morgan Guilford and her husband, Wade, Natalie Smith and her husband, Zac and Haley Wood, all of Port St. Joe; and a great-granddaughter, Blakely Smith of Port St. Joe.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
Services will be held Friday, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. CT at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown with Pastor Bill Mayo officiating. Interment will follow at Cypress Creek Cemetery in Kinard.
