Driver found passed out in car charged with DUI
A 19-year-old Blountstown man was arrested after he was found passed out behind the steering wheel of his vehicle, which was still in drive, early Saturday morning.
Blountstown Police Officer Daisy Holliday was sent to check on what was reported to be an impaired driver at the intersection of Angle Street and Blount around 2:17 a.m.
She found Ian Arthur Nash and, with the help of Deputy Colby Beck, tried for several minutes to rouse him before he finally responded.
The officer’s report noted that Nash could barely speak or stand and his vehicle had a strong odor of marijuana. He was handcuffed and placed in a patrol car.
During a search of the car, the officer found a small plastic bag with two small blue pills, a burnt marijuana cigar and more clear plastic baggies “with marijuana residue everywhere.” The report noted that the floorboard of the car was covered with small pieces of marijuana and loose tobacco along with 20 or more empty cigarillo packs.
When questioned, Nash said he didn’t know anything about the pills and said he had not smoked anything except Black and Mild Cigars.
After returning to the police department, a urine sample was taken for lab testing.
Nash was charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and DUI.
