Rufus Earl Guilford

BLOUNTSTOWN - Rufus Earl Guilford, 89, of Blountstown, passed away at his home Friday, Dec. 2, 2016. He was born on April 5, 1927 in Blountstown and was a lifelong resident of Calhoun County. He was of protestant faith.

He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. After graduating from Altha High School, he attended Merchant Marine School in Jacksonville. After attending Merchant Marine School he sailed the Great Lakes working for the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company. He later furthered his education and became a Third Engineer with the Saltwater Merchant Marines working on Super Tankers that transported oil and other goods around the world.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin H. and Minnie Lee Guilford; his brother, Cecil R. Guilford; his sister, Lois E. Adams; and a stepson, Tommie Crawford.

Survivors include his brother, Willie E. “Gene” Guilford and his wife, Vivian of Panama City; one sister, Doris Ailene Kent and her husband, Cortez of Blountstown; one stepdaughter, Diana Alday and her husband, Lee of Altha; one stepson, Elwood Sandridge and his wife, Bobbie Jean of Wewahitchka; five daughters, Sheila Kay Levine of Clearwater Beach, Doris Missiha and her husband, Samir of Porter, TX, Lois Guilford of Blountstown, Tammie Peddie and her husband, Terry of Altha, and Earline Ross of Old Town; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 6 from 5-7 p.m. CT at Peavy Funeral Home.

Services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 7 at the Blountstown First Pentecostal Holiness Church at 11 a.m. CT with David Goodman officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Memorial Cemetery in Blountstown.

Friends, food and visits will be received at the home of Ailene and Cortez Kent, 18796 NE Jim Durham Road in Blountstown.

Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown is in charge of the arrangements.
