BLOUNTSTOWN - Margaret Atkins, of Blountstown, passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016 in Gainesville after a long descent into the valley of Alzheimer’s.
Known to friends and family as “Mz Margie”, she was born in Atlanta, attended the University of Georgia and moved to Blountstown after her marriage to the late Louis James Atkins, a native son and local dentist. They were together for over 50 years.
She was a city girl who learned to love the rivers and woods of Calhoun County. As a member of the Blountstown Methodist Church, she served on various committees.
She remained close to her family-of-origin including her father, Frank, brother, Stuart and mother, Janie. She had a daughter, also named Janie and delighted in visits from her godchild, Pam and her brother’s children and grandchildren, Frank III, Shirley, Michael, Kristin, Jeff and Lisa. Doubtlessly she would have welcomed new arrivals, Austin and Colton if she had lived long enough to make their acquaintance.
Memorial services in celebration of her life will be held Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. CT at Jack Lake.
Anyone wishing to do so can make a contribution to the Panhandle Pioneer Settlement in her memory.
Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown is in charge of the arrangements.
