A 52-year-old Wewahitchka man has been charged with DUI manslaughter in a Feb. 8 accident on S.R. 71 that left one man dead, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Lloyd J. Husband was arrested March 3, following an investigation by the FHP. Two samples taken after the wreck showed Husband’s blood alcohol contest to be .142 and .144, nearly twice Florida’s legal limit of .08.

Husband was traveling north on S.R. 71 in Gulf County at 7:30 p.m. when his 1997 Chevrolet pickup traveled off the road, onto the east grass shoulder, and collided with a pedestrian.

After impact, Husband steered left and his truck began rotating, crossing both lanes before coming to rest on the west shoulder of S.R. 71.

Killed was 26-year-old Murray E. Edich II of Palm Coast. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was found on the center line of Jehu Cemetery Road.

The fatality was investigated by FHP Cpl. R. Bailey and Trooper Phil Spaziante.
