A Calhoun County man was arrested two days after an altercation with his girlfriend on a charge of aggravated battery on a pregnant woman, according to a report from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrived to find the victim, who is six weeks pregnant, with bruises on her face and red marks around her neck after being choked Aug. 15. She told deputies she was experiencing stomach pain as well.
She stated that there had been an incident earlier at the SR 20 home of her boyfriend, Brandon Conyers, 32, where he punched her in the face and choked her several times.
The two later went to a birthday party at the home of some friends. There, Conyers, who was described as “very intoxicated” was playing around with her when her forehead accidently hit him in the mouth. Conyers got angry and grabbed her by her neck, choking her until she nearly passed out, according to witnesses.
Conyers choked his girlfriend several different times that night until she was left laying on the ground, witnesses said. They described how he then picked her up by the neck and slammed her into the side of a truck.
Witnesses said Conyers put a gun in the woman’s lap and begged her to shoot him. Another man took the gun and unloaded it before handing it to Conyers, who then left the party.
Deputies were called to the scene at 1:22 a.m.
Conyers could not be located at that time but was taken into custody Aug. 17. He was conditionally released pending no contact with the victim.
